Fuengirola removes more than 700 tonnes of bulky waste. Avoid fines by using free large waste collection service

Fuengirola Town Hall has removed more than 700 tonnes of discarded furniture and bulky household items from public streets since the beginning of the year, in efforts to keep the Costa del Sol resort pristine during the busy summer season.
The council officials want to remind residents and holidaymakers to make full use of the town’s free collection service to prevent illegal dumping and improve street cleanliness.
Summer cleaning operation under way
Carmen Diaz, the Councillor for Street Cleaning, confirmed that the areas special summer cleaning campaign officially launched on June 1 and will run until the end of September. Local authorities are calling for greater public cooperation to maintain the high standards of order and cleanliness for which Fuengirola is known.
Figures released by the council highlight the scale of the issue –
2025 Total: More than 1,500 tonnes of furniture and household items were collected.
2026 So Far: Cleaning crews have already cleared over 700 tonnes from streets and public spaces since January.
Free collection service available to use
Residents wishing to dispose of old furniture, mattresses, or other large household items are required to contact the town hall collection service on 900 101 889, between 8am and 3pm, Monday through to Friday, before putting anything out. Operators will provide specific instructions on the exact time and location to leave the items, ensuring they are cleared efficiently without disrupting neighbours.
This collection service is completely free and accessible to all registered residents. Officials emphasize that using the system correctly is vital for protecting the town’s image and reducing environmental hazards.
Heavy fines for illegal dumping
Authorities have issued a stern warning that breaching Fuengirola’s strict cleaning regulations will not be tolerated.
Fines: Penalties for illegal dumping range from €301 to €1,500.
Enforcement: Local Police officers are actively monitoring areas known for illegal bulky waste disposal, using both standard patrols and plain-clothes officers to catch offenders in the act.
Town Hall leaders would like to remind residents that it is a whole community responsibility to retain Fuengirola’s reputation as one of the cleanest, most attractive destinations on the Costa del Sol, especially over the busy summer months.
