ITV Benidorm's Gavin star unrecognisable in hit Netflix show and fans are gobsmacked

He played Gavin Ramsbottom in ITV ’s Benidorm, but actor Hugh Sachs has left fans floored after they spotted him in a hit Netflix show. Hugh joined the cast of the iconic sitcom, Benidorm, in its first series in 2007. The show - which was axed in 2018 - followed a group of Brits as they headed to the all-inclusive Solana Resort to soak up the sun. Gavin was one of those holiday-makers who appeared alongside his boyfriend Troy (Paul Bazely). The character remained on the show for five series , before leaving in 2012. As for Hugh, he is no stranger to appearing on TV screens. He’s had roles in the likes of The Catherine Tate Show, Footballers' Wives and My Family. But it’s his role in Bridgerton that has got plenty of fans talking. The talented star plays Brimsley in the Netflix period drama - that is one of the most successful TV franchises of all time. Brimsley is the gossip-obsessed right-hand man to Queen Charlotte, played by Golda Rosheuvel. And according Hugh, he auditioned for another role as well as Brimsley. Talking about getting the role of Brimsley, Hugh told ShonaLand: “I went in for two roles: the Duke of Hastings’ servant and Brimsley. “I read a couple of lines, and then I completely forgot about it. Because we don’t do romantic fiction; we do Austen or Dickens. “Then they rang and said that they’d like me to play Brimsley. I asked who Charlotte was going to be played by, and they told me Golda, and that was the first I knew of its intentions to be inclusive. “I got the six episodes, and I thought, ‘I’ll read two today and do the other four tomorrow.’ I read all six in one sitting. I just thought, ‘They know how to keep you hooked; they really know what they’re doing.’” And it's fair to say that upon discovering Brimsley is portrayed by Hugh, Bridgerton fans were left utterly gobsmacked. "When you realise Hughesly (queens aid) in #bridgerton is Gavin from #benidorm," one person said on X previously. Someone else wrote: "Why is Gavin from Benidorm in Bridgerton?". A third chimed in: "Can't believe that non-Brits are watching #queencharlotte completely unaware that the actor who plays the older Brimsley is THE Gavin from Benidorm. a legend, an icon."
