Outsiders see the stark white fur, the intense eyes, and the bold stripes of face paint and assume they are a grim warrior returning from a bloody skirmish in the wilder woods. They are, in a way. Last week’s three-day expedition into the riverlands was not to fight bandits, but to secure the one specific type of river moss needed for the village's moon-festival stew. The 'war paint' is a carefully applied mixture of berry juice and mud to help them blend in with fruit bushes. Their triumphant grin is not for a foe vanquished, but for a successful harvest. They take their role as Chief Snack-Finder very, very seriously.
