The 9th International Conference on “Banking and Finance Perspectives” (ICBFP’2026) was held at Eastern Mediterranean University (DAÜ) in Famagusta on October 22–23. Digital finance was the main theme, including cryptocurrencies, financial technologies and central bank digital currencies. Specialists from 17 countries took part in the conference and presented 50 papers across 10 sessions.

The conference was organised by DAÜ’s Department of Banking and Finance in the Faculty of Business and Economics, with the Turkish Cypriot Cooperative Central Bank as its sponsor. Professor Nesrin Ozatac and Associate Professor Nigar Taşpınar served as co-chairs. Some sessions were held in person and others online via Microsoft Teams.

Faculty Dean Mustafa Besim grouped the papers into four areas: digital finance, fintech, crypto assets and artificial intelligence; the banking sector, financial stability and monetary policy; capital markets, portfolio management and behavioural finance; and sustainable finance, climate risks and energy economics. He said the faculty has 4 departments, 41 programmes and about 1,850 students.

DAÜ Rector Hasan Kılıç emphasised that trust, security, transparency and accountability remain key in digital finance, and that the opportunities and risks of cryptocurrencies, fintech and central bank digital currencies should be assessed on the basis of scientific evidence.

The keynote speakers were Professor Erhan Aslanoğlu, who spoke about banking in an era of global uncertainty, and Anis Samet, a professor at the American University of Sharjah, who discussed how banks respond to changes in interest rates. The opening ceremony was attended by TRNC parliament member Teberrüken Uluçay and Mehmet Ağa, Undersecretary of the State Planning Organization at the Prime Minister’s Office.

Papers accepted following a separate peer-review process are expected to be published in the Springer Proceedings in Business and Economics series, which is indexed in Scopus and Web of Science.
