Leaked Statements Reveal Suspect’s Account of Camilo Séptimo Musician’s Homicide
Chilling new details have emerged surrounding the tragic home-invasion murder of Jonathan Meléndez, keyboardist for the renowned Mexican indie rock band Camilo Séptimo, following the leakage of preliminary statements made by the primary suspect, Diego Sebastián “N.”
The gruesome attack, which occurred on the afternoon of September 1 in Atizapán de Zaragoza, State of Mexico, resulted in the deaths of Meléndez, his wife Ana Paola, their young daughter Sofía, the family’s domestic worker, and the family dog.
According to leaks from judicial sources and reports distributed by journalist Carlos Jiménez, Diego Sebastián—an Argentine national and former business associate of Meléndez—claimed during police interrogations that the violent confrontation broke out during a heated financial dispute. In initial statements, the suspect allegedly told investigators that he had gone to Meléndez’s penthouse apartment in the upscale Zona Esmeralda area to collect on an outstanding loan of 300,000 pesos. However, in subsequent testimony, he altered his account, claiming he was demanding the release of foreign currency and approximately 30 million pesos worth of Bitcoin.
“Things got out of control,” Diego Sebastián reportedly told authorities when explaining how a business argument escalated into a brutal multiple homicide.

Security camera footage captured Diego Sebastián and an accomplice, identified as Gerardo “N,” entering the residential building around 5:30 p.m. Security footage showed the main suspect attempting to conceal his face with a cap and sunglasses as he navigated the property. Investigations indicate that because Diego Sebastián was a close business partner in a vacation property rental startup called “Nomad Adventures,” he gained easy access to the home.
Upon entering, the suspect allegedly restrained Meléndez’s wife and daughter in a bathroom while awaiting the musician’s arrival. When Meléndez arrived and stated he could not fulfill the monetary demands, the situation turned fatal. Diego Sebastián reportedly opened fire on Meléndez before killing his wife, daughter, and the domestic worker, who was shot while attempting to flee. The family’s six-year-old son miraculously survived the attack by hiding beneath a bed in the domestic worker’s bedroom.
Further reports reveal that after committing the murders, the perpetrator remained inside the penthouse for nearly two hours searching for hidden cash and cryptocurrency records. When building security guards knocked on the apartment door after being alerted by concerned neighbors, Diego Sebastián responded from inside, claiming he was unable to open the door. Security personnel retreated to call local police and Navy (SEMAR) officers, allowing the suspects a narrow window to flee the scene before law enforcement made entry.

Authorities from the State of Mexico’s Attorney General’s Office (FGJEM), in coordination with Mexico City police, apprehended Diego Sebastián “N” and Gerardo “N” the following morning near La Marquesa. Both suspects were subsequently transferred under heavy security to the Barrientos penitentiary.
Prosecutors have formally charged the suspects with aggravated homicide and animal cruelty. While the leaked statements point to an escalating financial dispute over debts and digital assets, prosecutors emphasize that all hypotheses—including potential fraud charges previously leveled against Diego Sebastián—remain active areas of investigation as the judicial process unfolds.
