‘There Are No VPs, SVPs’—Why Hut 8 Eliminated Most Traditional Job Titles

I had an interesting visit last week from Asher Genoot, the 31-year-old CEO of Hut 8, which has transitioned from building bitcoin mining centers to building AI data centers—although it still runs both. Asher’s passion is neither bitcoin nor AI, but energy. He sees the firm’s mission as finding energy to run large technology operations, and is looking at other businesses, such as advanced manufacturing, to ply his trade.
But what really grabbed my attention was his discussion of how he runs the company, which now has a market cap of more than $10 billion. He has eliminated most traditional job titles. “There are no VPs, SVPs, et cetera.” Instead he has a very flat organization structure and calls most of his senior people “partners.”
