WazirX brings back Gangs of Wasseypur’s Ramadhir Singh for crypto campaign

In this news:

MUMBAI: Ramadhir Singh is back, and this time he has some trading advice to share. WazirX has tapped the cult world of Gangs of Wasseypur for its latest OTT campaign, bringing back Tigmanshu Dhulia as the formidable Ramadhir Singh, recast as ‘Bauji’, a voice of hard-earned trading wisdom.
The 79-second film recreates the visual style and father-son dynamic associated with the two-part crime drama to address a very current problem in crypto trading: users relying on unverified recommendations shared through online tip groups.
At the heart of the campaign is a simple message: traders taking a position are ultimately responsible for the risks, so they need to do their own research rather than blindly follow someone else’s call.
Set against spaces reminiscent of the film’s Wasseypur universe, the ad follows Bauji as he deals with his seemingly inept son, who believes people offering trading tips online must know how to make money.
Bauji quickly tears that logic apart, pointing out that tip providers can make money regardless of whether the person following their advice makes a profit or takes a loss.
The campaign uses humour to tackle a serious issue in online trading communities, where confident predictions, promised returns and urgent buy-or-sell calls can push users towards highly leveraged positions without fully understanding the risks.
The creative also brings back the much-loved “Tumse na ho payega” dialogue, turning it into a challenge for traders: “Kya tum se ho payega?” The line encourages viewers to resist the temptation of making quick money through unverified tips and instead develop their own understanding of the market.
The campaign’s build-up was almost as dramatic as the ad itself. Dhulia first posted about the return of his iconic character, followed by filmmaker Anurag Kashyap joining the conversation around the return of Ramadhir Singh.
The cryptic posts sparked speculation on X, with fans wondering whether the campaign was actually hinting at a reboot or return of the characters. The eventual reveal turned that anticipation into a brand campaign.
The original video posted by Dhulia has crossed 1.6 million views, while the reveal has also attracted an overwhelmingly positive response online. Netizens have praised the campaign for using the familiar father-son banter from the film to highlight common mistakes made by crypto traders.
For WazirX, the choice of Gangs of Wasseypur goes beyond nostalgia. The film’s characters and dialogues have retained a strong presence in India’s internet culture, making Ramadhir Singh an instantly recognisable vehicle for a message about decision-making and risk.
“In fast-moving markets, especially futures, blindly following anonymous tips can be disastrous. Through this campaign, we wanted to communicate a serious message in a culturally familiar and entertaining way: traders must build their own understanding before taking a position,” said WazirX founder, Nischal Shetty.
He added that WazirX aims to equip users with tools to make more informed decisions through transparent pricing, intuitive trading features and WazirX AI, its trading assistant designed to support market research.
WazirX Futures was launched in May with a maker fee of 0.02 per cent and a taker fee of 0.04 per cent. The company says these are the lowest fees among Indian crypto exchanges, with no volume threshold required to access them.
The exchange has also introduced WazirX AI, which is designed to help users research crypto markets, understand their portfolios and identify trading opportunities without having to switch between charts, news feeds, signal groups and trading screens.
With the campaign, WazirX is using a familiar piece of Bollywood culture to deliver an unfamiliar twist on Ramadhir Singh. The message remains firmly rooted in risk awareness: when it is your money on the line, doing your own homework may be the one tip worth taking.
