The Kessler Effect : Series 18 | Tier 3 | No. 180
Out of this World Mini Series : Earth | Third planet from the Sun
Inspired by the 1978 collision cascade scenario proposed by NASA scientist, Donald J. Kessler. In this effect, the density of objects in Earth's orbit, due to space pollution, becomes high enough that collisions between objects could cause a chain reaction of on-going collisions. These potential impacts would generate additional space debris that increases the likelihood of "Collisional Cascading".
