About Machine Hallucinations - Nature Dreams
Winds of Berlin (2021) is the first architectural scale projection of Refik Anadol’s Studio’s Wind AI Data Sculpture series, specifically designed for the facade of KÖNIG GALERIE building.
A site-specific public art work that re-connects the audience with the patterns of invisible natural events, Winds of Berlin harnesses data sets of wind and gust speed, as well as preci- pitation and air pressure collected from real time API wind sensors in Berlin. Anadol and his team synthesize this raw data into ethereal data pigments based on a generative algorithm that is trained by all the real colors of Berlin. These AI-generated pigments eventually turn into a representational form of fluid-inspired movements with the help of custom software. Creating an illusion of architectural multi-dimensionality and emphasizing our embeddedness in nature, Winds of Berlin presents an entirely new and poetic way of re-locating ourselves in the world in relation to the city and its environmental factors.
