Federal authorities have announced new charges against six alleged scammers accused of targeting Americans through cryptocurrency investment fraud schemes linked to criminal networks operating across Africa and connected to China.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, the defendants are accused of running fraudulent NFT investment schemes from scam compounds in Madagascar.
Investigators allege that scammers posed as women on dating websites, built relationships with victims, and persuaded them to connect their cryptocurrency wallets to fraudulent investment platforms. The scammers allegedly stole funds from those wallets without the victims’ knowledge.
