Luminuscandescens Petalum, from Latin luminus (light) and candescens (glowing), is a bioluminescent fungus of the Crepuscular Luminae cluster. It features petal-like, ruffled lamellae with a central deep purple hymenophore emitting violet bioluminescence (450-495 nm cadmium blue), mainly on hymenial surfaces to attract spore dispersers in low-light canopies. Fruiting bodies measure 10-25 cm tall, 5-25 g, with pale pink to near-white iridescent caps and slender smooth stipes. Endemic to tropical rainforest canopies, it grows on decaying wood between 10-25°C, swaying with breezes. Classified in Agaricales, Mycenaceae, it relies on symbiotic nutrient recycling. Spores are forcibly ejected from lamellae and dispersed by insect vectors, supporting genetic flow. Its mycelium decomposes organic matter, crucial for tropical nutrient cycles.
