Berlin reportedly launches crisis response after hackers publish stolen data

On Saturday, Berlin’s state government launched an urgent crisis unit after hackers published a trove of stolen data with investigators evaluating the scope and consequences of the cyberattack affecting two departments.
The recent cyberattack on Berlin’s network came less than a month before the city-state conducted elections on September 20.
On Friday, the date released after an auction put on by the Rhysida group for 5.79 terabytes of data at a starting price of 30 bitcoin closed after a couple of days.
The city said that a central crisis unit will conduct a formal, structured evaluation and validation process for the leaked data and support efforts to inform affected citizens and businesses.
In this connection, Berlin described the hacking incident as a serious crime against the government, prompting the public not to disseminate unverified claims on social media, as reported by the Reuters.
Nonetheless, authorities confirmed that individuals affected by the breach will be notified pursuant to German and European data protection rules.
