They always said that in order to be famous, a primate must possess something special in this world, either intelligence, ability, wealth or power. But Jae Wonsung-i proved that all you need to be successful was a beautiful big belly and a good sense of humor – and he had plenty of both.
Even as a little monkey and during his school days, he was known for not being able to sit still for long. He loved to dance and was the class clown. Back then he was often considered a troublemaker, but later everyone had to admit that he always managed to lighten the mood. In addition to good humor and a portion of self-mockery, music had always been an integral part of his life. During his adolescence, he quickly lost interest in studying and spent what was left of his tuition on musical instruments, entertainment, and food – then squandering the rest. However, he devoted many hours a day to learning music, dance, different languages, and other skills in preparation for his debut. This training system was often criticized by his friends for being so difficult, and at times so strange, that they felt it was a violation of basic primate rights – whether it was precisely that of the artist or that of the audience remained a matter of debate.
With that, Jae tried hard to become a Monkeyverse pop music idol and had the goal to use unlimited global reach to make the world a better place for everyone. But even he had to admit that he was different. Sure, after a little too much banana bread, he probably wouldn't win any Mister Monkeyverse contest, but he auditioned for several idol monkey bands. He didn't want to pretend to be anyone else because after all he was unique and proud of it. He failed eighteen times. Without a band, he still managed to complete a debut album on his own, though his peculiarities were unappreciated by Primate Government authorities, who labeled the wasteful way of eating a banana in his first album as "inappropriate content" and restricted its sales. As a rookie singer, he disrupted the Monkeyverse music scene with very blunt lyrics, quirky dance moves and an unconventional demeanor that earned him the nickname "The Bizarre Howling Monkey“.
Following that, he hadn't expected how things would turn out in the end. Basically, he just wrote a song, invented a dance, and made a little video with friends who had as much self-mockery as he did. In summary, he just wanted to have a good time. In the clip he proudly presented his belly as the new status symbol of a prosperous monkey society, an irony of the waste of consumption. Of course, he wanted to share the result, which he called "Wonsung-i Style" and upload it to APENET social networks. He gave himself the artistic nickname "WSI" to showcase his work. Jae had no idea what to expect the next morning: His video was viewed around 500,000 times on the first day. Things moved very quickly after that and his music video for "Wonsung-i Style" surpassed one billion views on ApeChannel in a short span of time, becoming the first video in the site's history to do so. Jae, or WSI as he was now known on APENET, was later recognized as the "Monkey King of the ApeChannel". To his own astonishment, initially little known outside his small town, he rose to viral primate star. After much urging from friends and family, he started his own company "W Nation" and insured his belly for 500,000 banana coins. He was asked to perform on stage in front of a live audience of over a million monkeys at a globally televised New Year's Eve celebration – and now he had achieved what he really wanted, he had global reach and was recognized as international sensation that connected all parts of the Monkeyverse.
But after his success, Jae Wonsung-i now lived in both a dream and a nightmare as it would be difficult for his second song and performance to follow the success of "Wonsung-i Style". He was still wondering if he should try belly dancing next.
