Luminexcelsia Chromaglowia, named for its exalted light and vivid colored luminescence, is a bioluminescent fungal species featuring clustered fruiting bodies up to 15 cm tall with purplish-pink, white-speckled convex caps. Gills are thin, adnate to slightly decurrent, with bluish luminescent edges. Slender, white stipes anchor the clusters. It exhibits lamellate structures with orange and teal hyphal membranes. Bioluminescence spans 420-490 nm, driven by a luciferin-luciferase system in gills and caps. Thriving in temperate forests (10-20°C) on decaying hardwood, it is a saprotrophic decomposer in Agaricales, Luminispectraceae, genus Chromagloria, with 10 species. Lightweight basidiospores disperse anemochorously, supporting gene flow. Extensive mycelia sustain soil health and symbiosis in this niche.
