Luminomycota Spectrapinkus, named for its light-emitting pink hues, is a bioluminescent fungus from tropical rainforest understories. It features a convex cap up to 10 cm tall, translucent pink to creamy white with pustulate warts, and decurrent, spaced gills aiding spore dispersal. The fleshy stipe has a velutinous, granulated surface. Bioluminescence, emitting blue-green light (450-495 nm) from stipe base and inner cap via a luciferin-luciferase system, facilitates phototropic growth toward light gaps. It thrives on decaying organic matter, decomposing lignocellulosic material, with an extensive mycelium supporting nutrient cycling. Taxonomically in Luminorialaceae, genus Luminomycota, order Agaricales, it is vulnerable due to habitat loss but vital for forest ecosystem function.
