This bioluminescent plant stands 10-25 cm tall, weighing 15-50 g, with translucent, undulating petals radially arranged around a vivid central core emitting 470-530 nm blue-green light. Petals bear subtle red speckles enhancing fluorescence. The stem enables aquatic undulation, aiding nutrient diffusion in marine caves (20-30°C, low light). Taxonomically in Nebulorbaceae, genus Gloriosa (20 species). Its bioluminescence likely involves a luciferin-luciferase reaction localized at petal bases. Ecologically, it attracts nocturnal bioluminescent insect pollinators by glowing and undulating, ensuring cross-pollination. Minimal leaf patterns focus energy on flower luminosity, optimizing reproduction in dim marine habitats.
