AI Predicts Bitcoin Shrugs Off $110 Oil as Last Year’s Sellers Quietly Disappear
In this news:
Key takeaways
- Bitcoin held near $82,000 despite Brent crude surging past $110 due to Middle East tensions.
- Exchange inflows from investors who accumulated in 2025 dropped by roughly 86% from June peaks.
- Rising trading volume alongside a flat price indicates heavy trading activity without directional movement.
Bitcoin holds steady despite oil surge
AI Predicts Bitcoin holds the $82,000 area through a geopolitical shock that would normally have moved it: the supply that used to meet every rally has stopped arriving on exchanges. BTC trades at $82,198, up 0.21% over 24 hours, with market cap at $1.65 trillion.
The news flow says this should be a worse day. Brent crude pushed above $110 after the United States warned Americans in twelve Middle Eastern countries to prepare for cancelled flights and closed airspace, with alerts saying hostilities could spread and that Iran and its allies may target US interests. Oil moved roughly two dollars in a matter of hours.
Bitcoin barely registered it. The move over the same period was a fraction of a percent, and the current four hour candle is down 0.52% after trading between $82,071 and $83,009.
One number does stand out. Volume rose 84.8% to $24.7 billion while price went nowhere, which means a considerable amount of stock changed hands without either side gaining ground.
Exchange inflows collapse
The explanation for that stability sits in exchange inflow data rather than in sentiment. CryptoQuant tracks what happens to coins that were bought six to twelve months ago, which in practice means the cohort that accumulated through the strongest stretch of 2025. The question is simple: when those holders move their coins, do the coins go to an exchange, which usually means they are being sold, or somewhere else.
For most of this year the answer was that they were selling heavily. In the thirty days to June 17, some 63,800 BTC from that cohort landed on exchanges, which was 40.4% of everything the group moved. The following window brought 46,800 BTC at 30.9%.
Then the pattern broke. The share fell to 9.8% by mid August, to 3.7% by mid September, and sits at 4.4% in the window ending October 15, representing 9,100 BTC.
That is a decline of roughly 86% in absolute terms from the June peak. The holders who had been distributing into every advance for the first half of the year have largely finished, and what reaches exchanges now is a small fraction of what used to.
It explains why a week of genuinely difficult macro news has produced a sideways market rather than a broken one. The marginal seller has thinned out, so each piece of bad news has less supply behind it to convert into a decline.
Macro factors and Federal Reserve meeting
The flat reaction today is not the same as no reaction at all, and this is the part worth watching into next week. Crude at $110 is an inflation input before it is anything else. It feeds into transport, manufacturing and energy costs, and those costs show up in producer prices first. September PPI already came in at 6.3% against a 5.3% forecast, missing by a full point and reaching its second highest reading since November 2022. September CPI arrived at 3.7%.
An oil shock on top of that makes the October data harder to call, and the Federal Reserve meets on October 29 with a rate increase still on the table. The transmission takes weeks rather than hours, which is precisely why the market can absorb the headline today and still be dealing with it in November.
Supply offers no help in either direction. Circulating supply stands at 20.09 million of a 21 million maximum, with 1.36 million BTC held in corporate and government treasuries, so the available float is already tight before any of this week’s flows are counted.
