Analysts issue Bitcoin selloff warning and set targets
In this news:
Key takeaways
- Bitcoin saw over $25 billion wiped from its market capitalization in 24 hours.
- Analyst Aksel Kibar warns the price could fall to a liquidity range between $82,800 and $60,000.
- Rising U.S. government bond yields and upcoming inflation data weigh on market sentiment.
As Bitcoin (BTC) saw over $25 billion wiped from its market capitalization in 24 hours – dropping to roughly $1.65 trillion on October 12, 2026 – analysts sampled by Finbold have warned of mounting sell-off pressures.
On Monday, Aksel Kibar, a former fund manager at the National Bank of Abu Dhabi, issued a cautionary statement about a potential Bitcoin sell-off as its recent breakout lacks fuel. Kibar stated that Bitcoin’s price could fall further to re-enter a liquidity range between $82,800 and $60,000.
As a result, this analyst argued that the BTC price must rebound and experience a strong rally above its support level near $82,800.
Analyst concerns over breakout momentum
“Compared with previous breakout/breakdown candles, this breakout above 82.8K is hesitant and lacks momentum,” Kibar documented.
Bitcoin price has been choppy, in the recent past, as yields across U.S. government bonds, including 10-year and 30-year Treasuries, rose to their highest levels since 2002, as Daniela Hathorn, senior market analyst at Capital.com, formally notified Finbold earlier on Monday.
“The recent easing of Middle East tensions has provided some breathing room, but the sustainability of the rebound will depend on whether the improvement in sentiment translates into a more meaningful retreat in bond yields and the dollar. Attention now turns towards upcoming US inflation data, which could prove decisive in shaping expectations for the Fed’s next move,” Hathorn noted.
Current price performance and volume
At the time of writing, Bitcoin price traded at around $82,480, down nearly 2% over the past 24 hours.
Despite the recent choppy consolidation, Bitcoin price has added 6.59% during the past 30 days, suggesting a renewed uptrend. Over the past 24 hours, BTC’s trading volume spiked by more than 99% to $22.8 billion, according to data from CoinMarketCap.
Consequently, these analysts have signaled a further BTC price selloff if the macroeconomic conditions, fueling inflation amid rising U.S. bonds, force the Federal Reserve to intervene with its monetary tightening.
