Bitcoin breaks above $83,000. Now the market needs to prove there is real demand
Bitcoin has moved above $83,000, but this morning’s rally needs some context. Over the past hour, around $218 million in BTC positions have been liquidated, with more than $212 million coming from shorts. Over 24 hours, total liquidations are close to $275 million.
That tells us that a significant part of the move has been driven by a short squeeze. Forced buying from short covering, however, is not the same as sustained new demand entering the market.
The constructive part is that bitcoin is breaking through the $82,800–$83,000 area we have been monitoring as key technical resistance, improving the short-term structure. However, the breakout is not fully confirmed yet, and we need to see whether bitcoin can hold this level, spot volumes expand and genuine buyers continue to support the move once this wave of liquidations fades.
The rest of the crypto market is broadly following the same direction, with major altcoins participating rather than diverging from bitcoin. That is constructive from a market-breadth perspective, although the key question remains whether the move is increasingly supported by spot demand rather than derivatives positioning.
The signal is constructive, not euphoric. Price has done what it needed to do. Now we need to see whether spot demand takes over from the short squeeze across bitcoin and the broader altcoin market.
